Purple Threeawn or Aristida
Purpurea
A small bunchgrass to 1 ft. tall, less than 1 ft. wide. In summer, the
seed
heads form a cloud of purple. The seed head that carries the seed is a 3-spoked (3-awned) pinwheel hence the name threeawn. The seed can lodge
in pets' paws or ears so this isn't the grass to use near them.
Extremely drought tolerant. |
